10 Options for the first digit (0 to 9)
10 Options for the second digit (0 to 9)
10 Options for the third digit (0 to 9)

10 x 10 x 10 = 1000 "shortcuts"

Your answer is correct. His answer would be correct if there is a four-digit lock * *. were

10 possibilities for each number, so that the number of combinations of 3 digits:
10 * 10 * 10 = 1000 combinations
Therefore, you are right.
Another simple way to think about that, because the combinations only numbers that the maximum number that can be represented by the dark, 999 are, we have the number of combinations of 1 to 999, and so we have 000 commitments we have with 1000 combinations.

If the first number is zero, the second number is zero, and then the third number can be any number between zero and nine ... It is ten chances. But the second number can vary from zero to 9, so that for each value of the second question, there are ten ways to us 10 times 10 or 100 possibilities.

The first issue is also one of the ten values, and for each value, there are 100 possibilities for the number of ways of 1000

Assuming that each line can go 0-9 (ten options) and any combination of the three faces are allowed, there are 10 × 10 × 10 = 1000 possible combinations.

1000 in silver, because the blockade is raised to 999, more than 000.
